After visiting some retreats and publishing reviews about them (click here to watch my Review of the Handstand Factory Retreat and a retreat with Miguel Sant’ana), Ivo and I went to Perth to visit some handstand people we had connected with on Instagram. When we were there I realized what a great environment Perth offers for people who want to learn handstands, so I decided to publish a review of my experience there too.
All in all Perth was a place both of us could have imagined staying a lot longer. It’s not just the fact that there’s so many options for learning and practicing handstands. It’s also the awesome people, who are just so fun to hang out with, are honest and real and know the value of a community, where everybody helps eachother.
If it wasn’t for those dammned visa runs and wasn’t on the other side of the world from our families…
If you can’t afford an expensive retreat, buy a plane ticket to Perth and just hang out there and connect with the people for a while. You’ll notice tremendous benefits for your trianing!

small correction of the content: Yuval Ayalon didn’t actually go to Perth, but Paul Twyman has worked with him and taken away valuable knowledge that he integrates in his own way when he teaches. Also depending on who of the coaches you work with, you notice different influences and styles of teaching. It’s one of the nice things in Perth, that each teacher has his own way and perspective, but they are all completely open and relaxed about it, which makes a perfect learning atmosphere to build your own opinions based on your experience.
Let me know if you have any more questions about this! Usually all the guys I mentioned above are super easy going, so don’t be afraid to just shoot them a message on Instagram!
The world is your playground, so just go ahead and do whatever you love!

Awesome Sonja. I would love to visit Perth as you did. Maybe one day. Love your show! As a beginner trying to learn it’s been inspiring and helpful. Thank you.
Thanks! I’m very happy to hear that :). If you make it to Perth, I’m sure it’ll be worth it 😉
