I was fortunate enough to be able to interview Alexander Hart, another student at the Academy of Circus and Variety Arts in Kyiv. He’s originally from Alaska, USA, which was a fun coincidence since that’s where my own father comes from. Alex was close to finishing his second year at the circus school in Kyiv and the story of how he got there is quite fascinating.
He was self-taught, mainly from watching YouTube videos on the internet. But seeing those high-level handbalancers from Ukraine lit his passion. So he went from doing regular body work-outs to becoming a high-level handbalancer, who is working towards performing on stage. Like many of us, Alex thought that going to circus school was only for kids. But he entered the Kyiv circus school in his adult life!
Check out his interview in which he shares his path with us and insights he had along the way. After our interview Alex shared a quote with me that I think describes his motives in a perfect way:
“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable” – Socrates
Unfortunately we were very limited in time – Alex is a busy man. So we had to keep the interview short. Nevertheless I really hope you enjoy watching it and it inspires you to work towards your own full potential! Let your handstand practice be fueled by him, just like he was fueled by others he saw youtube videos of.
